JCI’s Conversations with Giants in Medicine: Stanley Prusiner
Переглядів 15919 годин тому
In this episode, Ushma Neill talks with Dr. Stanley Prusiner. The discovery that a protein alone could be infectious, proposed by Stanley Prusiner of the University of California, San Francisco, now considered orthodoxy, was considered heretical in 1982. At that time scientists thought that the only infectious agents could be bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. We now know that these prote...

    Why not suggest that people drink vinegar? I realize that you are covering your backside but vinegar with baking soda renders it into a pH neutral substance that is simply acetate? Is it not? Seems like a no brainier to me. Getting the dose right is the problem.

    Shouldn’t an alcoholic turn to a ketogenic diet to provide fatty acid substrate for brain metabolic processes-replacing the acetate?

    • @Keithzzzzt
      @Keithzzzzt 5 місяців тому

      Yes. Studies have shown this to be true. Keto diets require less benzo medication than normal SAD. But it just makes sense to supplement with acetic acid too. Just use baking soda to neutralize the pH.

    What type of acetate can we take? There so many different variations, since I stopped drinking over 6 months ago, my brain energy levels are so low and I crave acetate even after 6 months off, I have had low alcohol 0.5% beers and my brain comes alive again even after drinking a few of those!! So I know my brain needs acetate where I was drinking for so many years, what type of acetate supplements can I take instead of having to drink 0.5% beers?

      Just take vinegar with baking soda. Use mct oils and go on a ketogenic diet. Berberine will help too as it upregukates the glut4 transporters for glucose intake.

    what about probiotics like bifidobacterium whose end product are acetate, does that affect in any way acetate levels in the brain? I'm a bit confussed with the extent of the influence of gut biota on the brain but since u mention vinegar..maybe yap the gut does affect to that level?

    You’re singing my song. I searched on UA-cam for how to relieve the itching associated with jaundice, and you’re addressing exactly my situation. I just had my gallbladder removed but somehow the jaundice is not going away. The itching is debilitating nearly. I’m looking for specific answers of course, how to relieve the itching, what to changing my diet, and of course how to relieve the problem with the liver in the first place. My doctors are examining it but no one has mentioned this condition specifically.

    I went to my internal medicine doctor and had an MRI and CT scan performed. Four days later, the physician assistant told me that I had a mass in my pancreas and lesions on my liver. Holding back tears, I asked if they could take them out. But she said they couldn’t. The physician assistant mentioned that I should see an oncologist, and that was the first indication that she was talking about cancer. Two weeks later, in June 2019, I was able to see an oncologist near my home outside of Bangor, Maine. Between the two appointments, I did a lot of research on pancreatic cancer. When I got to the oncologist’s office, I was told I had stage IV pancreatic cancer. The doctor recommended a chemotherapy regimen, which I did not believe was appropriate for me, based on my research. I also asked about other treatment options and was told no other options were available. My sister and I sought a second opinion from another hospital, where they told us about herbs from there one of the nurse told us about Dr. Harvey, a herbal doctor so we called him and we discussed about my pancreatic life. So he told us how to get this Natural Propolis lecithin Capsules made from Natural roots and herbs which will did and I went with the instructions consuming the herbs just within one week the unusual growing disappear and I was able to stand straight without bending down and I was so strong then two weeks went for check up behold nothing was there and my local doctor was surprised and asked for Dr. Harvey contact... and I was perfectly healed. All thanks to Dr. Harvey now I know herbs work. Reach him via WhatsApp : +1 475 522 1289 Email:{drharveyphytotherapy07@gmail.com}

    So, what's a "heavy" drinker?

    • @graememason8310
      @graememason8310 Рік тому

      Good question. I should have been clearer in the video. Also, sorry for the delay. I didn't know that anybody was looking! We used the NIAAA (U.S. national alcohol institute) criteria for at-risk drinking. For men, that's more than 14 standard drinks per week, plus at least once a month consuming 4 or more drinks on one occasion (technically called a binge). For women, that's more than 7 drinks per week, plus at least once a month consuming 3 or more drinks on one occasion. Yes, I know that lots of people meet those criteria, but it does carry risks like cancer, fatty liver, etc. In reality, the group that met the criteria for heavy drinking actually drank on average 18 drinks per week, most of it on the weekend. One more bit of practical trivia -- often when people get a glass of wine at a party, a restaurant, anywhere, the glass gets filled well beyond what a standard drink would be (about 5 ounces of wine, a bit over half a measuring cup), so often one glass of wine actually becomes much more than one standard drink.
